Age Spots on Skin

Dark spots from years of unprotected sun exposure leaves skin looking mottled and years older than its actual age. In fact, “liver spots” are one of the most obvious signs of aging. Clients who lack a healthy skin care regimen that includes rejuvenating peptides and a diet with healthy doses of niacin and vitamin C may see their skin's appearance become checkered with pigmented areas. When the skin barrier begins to break down, skin growths or lesions become more common. These may range from "seborrheic warts", "liver spots" or "age spots", and many clients are interested in reducing their appearance.

What Are Age Spots?

Lentigines, known as sun spots, or age brown spots, are benign, darkly pigmented lesions on sun exposed skin areas such as the face, upper chest, arms, and hands. Some lasers such as the ruby laser are used to remove facial age spots. Such methods destroy the pigment in the skin but do little damage. Six to eight weeks after the initial treatment, the response is evaluated to determine if further treatments are needed. Copper peptides have been used after laser treatments to produce better results. However, laser treatments may not be the preferred method for many who choose a more natural approach or fear their skin will be too sensitive to lasers.

Reducing the Appearance of Age Spots and Reveal Radiant Skin

Since it takes years of excess sun damage to develop sun spots, the process of reducing the appearance of age spots may take several months. Many age spots can be faded with the combination of strong SRCPs such as Super Cop 2X Extra Strength and strong hydroxy acids, which break down old, dead skin cells and allow peptides to work more deeply (you may need a 40% lactic acid peel). The mixture of Super Cop and a hydroxy acid cream should be rubbed into the age spot daily. After about two to four months*, many age spots flatten, diminish in size, and the skin subsequently brightens and evens out. There is no better way to hide your age than to illuminate and brighten skin by diminishing overly pigmented areas.
