Testimonials from Clients

I have been using Skin Biology products for both skin and hair for a year with excellent results. As a pre menopausal woman, age 54, I experienced moderate hair loss. I am using progesterone cream to control hot flashes with very good success and hormone tests indicate my estrogen level is normal.

New growth at the hair line has been significant, but at the back of the crown, especially it seems at the "cowlick" area, there is still some embarrassing thinning. I use both minoxidil and Folligen spray two times a day and your shampoo and conditioner which is superb, by the way. I use the extra strength minoxidil at night. Do you have any further suggestions? Would retin A applied to the scalp help? I was using Dr. Lowenbrau's formula ( hair spray) which as you probably know has both minoxidil and Retin A in it for a while before I discovered skin biology products, but it is too expensive. Thank you for any advice you might have.

If a woman has long hair,
it is a glory unto her.

St. Paul, I Corinthians

Most hair loss in women is normally due to scalp damage due to perms, coloring dyes, relaxers, using too much heat when drying hair, overuse of shampoos, tight buns or pony-tails, and overcutting (long hair is healthier). The chemical salts and dyes in eyebrow and eyelash make ups often produce a severe loss of eyebrows and eyelashes by age 40 in many women. Psychological stress or hormonal shifts such a menopausal changes or stopping the use of birth control pills can also cause temporary hair loss.

Dante Gabriel Rossetti - Helen of Troy

If you look at old photographs of families from about 1880, you will see that many women of age 60 still had long healthy hair in an era before modern hair care techniques. In poor areas on the world today, most mature women have healthier hair than in New York City.

Folligen is a non-drug product designed by Dr. Loren Pickart to improve scalp and hair follicle health and hair vitality.

Folligen products for women are normally used alone, or in combination with Emu Oil for Hair, or with minoxidil.

However, in our experience, hair loss in women is easier to reverse than loss in men.

Folligen had its beginning as a skin repair cream that was being tested in the Dermatology Department at the University of California at San Francisco. A 41-year-old woman with severe hair loss tried one of our skin repair creams because nothing else had worked to restore her lost hair. In two and one/half months she regained all her lost hair. Other people began using our skin repair cream to counter hair loss and. in time, Folligen emerged as a distinct product.

Folligen's biological effect on hair is similar to other SRCP products such as Graftcyte and Tricomin which are skin repair products, based on Dr. Pickart's research in the 1980s, that aid hair growth and scalp health.

Folligen® is recommended by nutrition expert Will Brink. See his article "Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow" from Musclemag International at www.brinkzone.com/hair.html

From Greg Chamber's Hair Loss Newsletter - " One of the great unsung heroes in the fight against hair loss, Folligen, is available relatively cheaply and one of the few creams effective for hair growth at the front of the head (in some cases, nothing works 100 percent for everyone). It uses Copper Peptide technology from the inventor of the stuff. "

Female Hair Regrowth - Our Recommendations

Our recommendations, based on 20 years of successful research on skin and hair and copious feedback from many male customers, are:

Start with SRCPs (Skin Remodeling Copper Peptides) such as Folligen Lotion, Folligen Cream, or Folligen Solution Therapy Spray.

SRCPs have both skin repair and hair growth enhancement effects.

The copper-peptide concept of tissue renewal is based on 25 years of research. Dr. Pickart invented the SRCPs that produced Tricomin and GraftCyte while founding at ProCyte Corporation, which sells them. Both GraftCyte for improving the establishment of hair transplants, and Tricomin for stimulating hair growth, have demonstrated efficacy clinical studies.

We recommend using Folligen four to five times a week as a light coating applied before bedtime.

Female customers usually tell us that customers say that Folligen:
(1) Markedly reduces hair loss in about three weeks
(2) Improves their scalp health and reduces irritation
(3) Results in a thicker head of hair in about four months

Emu Oil Can Help

Many of our customers have reported that the combination of Folligen's SRCPs and emu oil often produce drastic reductions in hair loss and increased hair growth. Recently, Dr. Michael Holick (Boston University Medical Center) reported a clinical study that found emu oil accelerated skin regeneration and also stimulated hair growth. He wrote -"The hair follicles were more robust, the skin thickness was remarkably increased... Also, we discovered in the same test that over 80 percent of hair follicles that had been 'asleep' were awakened, and began growing hair".

For More Hair Growth Add in Minoxidil (2% or 5%)

For more hair stimulation, add in 2% Minoxidil. This can be progressively increased to 5% Minoxidil. Sometimes minoxidil produces scalp irritation. If this happens, stop the minoxidil and use only Folligen until your scalp health is restored. Then reuse the 2% minoxidil and the 5% minoxidil if your scalp remains healthy. Prof. Hedio Uno, one of the world's top scientists on hair growth and who wrote the textbook on Rogaine, found SRCPs and minoxidil work together to produce increased hair growth.

Addition of Retinoic Acid (useful range 0.01 to 0.05%) gives further hair stimulation but may irritate the scalp.

Retinoic acid (Retin-A) helps produce thicker hair shafts when used with minoxidil. This combination appears to be one of the better current approaches to hair regrowth. The major drawback is an often strong scalp irritation. Folligen, used lightly, can greatly reduce this irritation. Sometimes, the combination of minoxidil and retinoic acid causes breaks in the skin barrier.

Addition of estrogen or a DHT blocker may help in some cases

Sandro Botticelli - Portrait of a young woman

Estrogens, the feminizing hormones, can inhibit or counteract the follicle-shrinking effect of the androgens. Women have more estrogens circulating in their blood than men. As a result of this higher level of estrogens, even women having a genetic predisposition for pattern hair loss are protected from losing their hair because of the high level of estrogens in their blood. When these women reach menopause however, their estrogen level may decrease sufficiently, and the protective effect of the estrogen may be overridden by the DHT message. Then hair can begin to thin, sometimes rapidly. Some women who are genetically pre-disposed to have pattern hair loss.

Estrogen supplementation can raise are estrogen levels, and help restore the emotional and physical condition of the patient to the pre-menopause states. It may also slow or stop hair loss triggered by menopause. While hormone replacement therapy has been a controversial treatment for menopause, newer methods are finding overall reductions both in the risk of some cancers and in the risk of heart diseases.

The best known DHT (dihydrotestosterone) blocker is Propecia®, the drug from Merck, but Merck does not recommend Propecia for women: a one year study of hair growth in 136 post-menopausal women found no significant effect of Propecia on hair growth.

Non-drug DHT Blockers include saw palmetto oil, pygeum and nettle root extract, the isoflavones genistein and daidzien, and ginkgo biloba.

Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones - Sidonia Von Bork, 1860

Saw palmetto has been used for over 400 years as a herbal treatment for enuresis, nocturia, atrophy of the testes, impotence, inflammation of the prostate, and as a mild aphrodisiac for men. Women used the berries to treat infertility, painful periods and problems with lactation.

Extracts of two plants, pygeum bark (Pygeum africanum) and nettle root (Urtica dioica) are widely used for the treatment of prostate hyperplasia.

Isoflavonoids, such as genistein and daidzein are weak estrogens and may lessen the risk of osteoporosis and heart disease. Several studies have found a protective effect of isoflavones against the development of cancer. The Chinese report that daidzien exhibits hair growth and hair color promoting activity. Some Folligen users have reported good hair regrowth when combined with oral intake of bioflavinoids.

Ginkgo biloba is a popular herb used world wide to improve cerebral blood flow and general blood circulation. It was recently reported by the Journal of the American Medical Association to slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease. It has been reported to inhibit 5-alpha reductase activity.

High level exercise training may cause hair loss

In women, severe exercise tends to reduce estrogen and raise testosterone. This can lead to a stopping of the menstrual cycle and more brittle bones. While there are many positive aspects of exercise training, this effect on hair should be kept in mind since it can increase the rate of hair loss.

Sudden hormone shifts can cause hair loss

In women hair loss can become severe after giving birth to a child or after discontinuation of oral contraceptives (birth control pills). The In these cases, a brief therapy with hair stimulators can usually restore hair to its previous condition.

Bleached, or very blond hair may pick up a green tint if Folligen is in contact with the hair. This is similar to the greenish-tint that may occur after spending time in swimming pools. The blue color can be removed with a solution of 1 part of lemon juice and 4 parts of water.

If the coloring is a problem, then use Folligen for Blondes which has no blue color.

Use Emu Oil S Lipid Replenisher on top to facilitate penetration.

Discontinue minoxidil if you experience irritation.

Typical results take approximately 4-6 weeks of consistent use.
